Your Superhero kid: A parents’ guide to navigating anxiety
Anxiety can be a huge barrier to enjoying school, making friends or just exploring new situations. When kids and teenagers are experiencing intense worry thoughts, they may find it difficult to express what could be going through their mind. Often, the unpleasant body sensations that accompany these thoughts may also lead them to feel highly overwhelmed and this gets in the way of expressing themselves verbally.
It is important for caregivers and teachers to empathise with your child/teen. It normalises what they experience and helps them to feel that they are not alone in battling anxiety. Importantly, it also allows them to feel heard and know that they can receive support to get through it.
Download this brief guide to Your Superhero Child. It has some starting points for parents on how to build a conversation around overcoming anxiety.
