Fees and rebates
All Clinical Psychology services are exempt from GST. Payments are typically made on the day of consultation by Cash, Cheque, EFTPOS or Credit Card.
A referral from your General Practitioner (GP), Paediatrician or Psychiatrist is required to access Medicare rebates for clinical psychology sessions.
If you plan to use private health insurance for your treatment, you do not need a referral.
Medicare rebates are available for Clinical Psychology services provided under a Mental Health Care Plan.
A mental health care plan is completed by your GP and provides access to Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual sessions and 10 group therapy sessions per person, per calendar year.
Your referring GP will schedule a return visit to review your progress after the first six psychological therapy sessions. At this point, your GP will provide a re-referral for an additional four sessions, if required.
As of 01/07/2019, Medicare will rebate:
- $126.50 per standard consultation with a Clinical Psychologist
- $86.15 per standard consultation with a Clinical Psychology Registrar
- $32.15 per group consultation with a Clinical Psychologist
Medicare rebates may be claimed at the practice on the day of your consultation.
Medicare rebates are also available to patients referred by a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician under the Better Access to Psychiatrists, Psychologists and General Practitioners through the Medicare Benefits Schedule (or “Better Access”) initiative. When referred by a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician only a referral letter is required.
