Neurodiversity-affirming assessments
Lawson Clinical Psychology understands that neurodiversity is an essential aspect of human diversity, and we celebrate the unique strengths and perspectives that come with it. Our commitment to neurodiversity-affirming assessments ensures that every child feels seen, respected, and supported throughout the assessment process.
What is Neurodiversity?
Neurodiversity refers to the idea that neurological differences, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning and developmental differences, are natural variations of the human brain. Embracing neurodiversity means recognising and valuing these differences as part of the rich tapestry of human experience.
Our neurodiversity-affirming approach is grounded in the belief that assessments should not only identify areas of difficulty but also highlight each child’s unique strengths and capabilities. We strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment where children feel empowered and understood. This approach not only leads to more accurate assessments but also contributes to a positive and affirming experience for both the child and their family.
Our difference
From the moment you step into our clinic, you will notice our commitment to inclusivity and respect. Our clinicians use language and practices that honour each child’s individuality, and we involve families in every step of the assessment process. We believe that parents and caregivers are essential partners in understanding and supporting their child’s development.
Our assessment reports are designed to be accessible and empowering. They provide clear insights, strengths-based recommendations, and practical strategies that honour your child’s neurodiversity. We aim to equip families with the knowledge and tools they need to support their child’s unique journey.
We are dedicated to celebrating and supporting the diverse ways in which children learn, grow, and thrive. Discover how our neurodiversity-affirming practices can make a difference for your child.
